Mr. William Verity is a 1992 graduate of The Crane School of Music and is recently retired after serving as the Director of Choral Activities at Plattsburgh High School in the Plattsburgh City School district, NY, where he conducted the Mixed Chorus and the Select Vocal Ensemble for over 20 years. Under his direction, the Select Vocal Ensemble consistently earned Gold and Gold with Distinction ratings for performances on level 6 literature at NYSSMA Major Organization festivals. The SVE had the pleasure of performing onstage at the Bell Centre with world-renowned violinist Andre Rieu and his orchestra in Montreal, CA and performed the song “I Want To Know What Love Is” with legendary rock group Foreigner in Burlington, VT. Additionally, the SVE was chosen to be the guest performing ensemble for the opening ceremonies for the 2017 NYSSBA Conference and morning performing group at the 2018 NYSSMA Winter Conference. Mr. Verity is the current choral editor for NYSSMA’s monthly professional journal: The School Music News, a publication received by music educators throughout New York state. He also conducts for American Music Abroad and has been on two European tours with local high school and college students. In the past, Mr. Verity has been an adjunct lecturer at SUNY Plattsburgh, where he conducted the College Chorale and Men’s Ensemble and provided individual voice instruction as an applied voice professor. Mr. Verity has acted as guest conductor for Area All-State and All-County honor ensembles throughout New York and Vermont and, in 2004, was the guest choral director of the Champlain Valley Oratorio Society. Twenty years later, he is honored to conduct the Champlain Valley Voices and is thrilled to have the opportunity to make music with the talented people he adores in our community.
